Get to the Polls
11/03/2009
The polls have been open since 6am for the three closely watched contests — the governorships in New Jersey and Virginia and a vacant Congressional seat in upstate New York — that could offer an early referendum on President Obama’s policies. Off-year races are often have low turnout and this year appears to be no different but there are still crucial decisions to be made at the ballot today.
The Republican party is seeking a come back and they are hoping voter apathy does the work for them but there is still time. New York City, William C. Thompson Jr. is hoping to be your next black mayor. Before you head home tonight head to the polls and make your voice heard.

A note from the butterfly…
Dear Reader,
I hate spam and I am making every effort not to send any. Due to complaints about double emails and conflicting information regarding Black Butterfly merchandise and offerings I have decided to temporarily pull the plug on the Facebook and Twitter accounts. We will debut a new grown and sexy, user friendly layout, with more in-depth articles focused on the arts, culture and spirituality in 2010. Until then read this blog, visit www.BBFlyOnline.com and subscribe to our Events RSS for the latest info. I will be updating here more frequently to compensate for the hiatus from the social networking scene.

Butterflies, Bubble Bees, Urban Nomads and Gypsy’s…
It has been a wonderful and eventful summer and I have so many exciting things to share with you. I would like to Welcome to The COCOON! the new friends from the UK and beyond that I picked up at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This is my weekly banter about life and the headlines and the all important Call(s) for Submissions list that keeps us freelancers employed. I include literary, visual arts and film on the submissions list. I promise to make commentary minimal but honest, interesting and worth your precious cybertime/ inbox space. Feel free to leave your comments on the blog or follow me on Twitter for announcements, product launches, events, links and random points of discussion. Though I was working on the all new www.BBFlyOnline.com all weekend (to be launched Oct1), i know there was a lot to tweet.
It is officially old news that I am a HUGE Jazy-Z fan and yes we share a birthday. Although like most New Yorkers September 11th has remained a day of reflection (and work – sadly) for me, Friday night was all about celebrating life and supporting the survivor spirit! I was so proud of Brooklyn as I watched Fuse with my diamond up, as Jay performed for another crowd that sold out the Garden in minutes – the 8th Madison Square Garden sell-out in his career. Speaking of sellouts and superstars Happy Birthday Tyler Perry! The new movie I Can Do Bad All By Myself opened to $23 million is his biggest opening without Madea’s name in the title. A great way to celebrate no matter how many chitterling circuit jokes they tell about you… GO Tyler!.
Kanye’s – keeping it real has nothing to do with this ode to Hennessey – moment at the VMA’s was in the words of Kimara Lee-Simmons faux-fabulous. In an ironic but classy attempt to make it ok, Beyonce called Taylor Swift up to complete the speech Kanye interrupted after she received her own (video of the year) Moon Man for “Put a Ring On It!” The world of Tennis felt the shock and awe of Serena Williams’ McEnroe style melt down at the U.S. Open, ending her run at singles and disappointing many of her fans (self included). She lost a crucial point and was fined for her poor sports “womenship” but has since acknowledge her wrong doing and won the doubles championship for the second time with her BFF and sister Venus. Way to save the day ladies!
Butterfly Weekly Word of Truth: (1) When your back is against the wall and the pen is all you have guts and a plan can make you a sellout. (2) Being a gracious loser won’t change the outcome but it is far better than getting fined, kicked out, looking ghetto as hell or embarrassing your family on TV.
Have a great week Tweeties!
